Our Grantmaking

Funding Cycles:

Our Board of Trustees meets twice a year to review applications – in mid-May and late November. Applications are accepted between December 8 and February 8 for our May Meeting and between June 8 and August 8 for our November Meeting.

Applications must be received on or before February 8 or August 8. If February 8 or August 8 falls on a weekend or holiday, the deadline is 5:00 PM of the previous business day. Due to increasing volume, we cannot guarantee that applications received in the last week of these time periods will be processed for the docket. We urge you to submit your applications as early as possible in each time period.

Information presented to our Board must be timely. Therefore, Applications that arrive either too early or too late for either time period will not be considered.

Applicant-Generated Application Forms:

In response to inquiries from applicants, the Raskob Foundation will accept an application form created on a computer. However, the form must conform to both the size and layout (sections/questions) of the Foundation’s Application Form. An applicant-generated form cannot consist of more than 2 pages and should be submitted on 8 1/2” x 11” white paper.

Eligibility Requirements:

The Raskob Foundation accepts applications from official Catholic, tax-exempt, non-profit organizations. Per the Foundation’s Charter, requests by or for individuals cannot be honored.

Within the United States, Catholic organizations are recognized by the IRS as those listed in the most recent edition of the Official Catholic Directory, published annually by P.J. Kenedy & Sons. For tax-exempt, charitable organizations not listed in the Kenedy Directory, the Foundation can accept an application for consideration only if it is submitted by an official Catholic organization that is financially supporting the project for which funds are being sought. If a grant were then approved by our Board of Trustees, payment would be made to the Catholic organization, which in turn could assign the funds to the project that it is already financially supporting.

Outside the United States, the Raskob Foundation accepts applications from Catholic dioceses, Catholic parishes, Catholic schools, Catholic hospitals and Catholic religious congregations. The Raskob Foundation will consider applications from certain other independent Catholic organizations if the following steps are taken:

The organization must first obtain a letter from its diocesan bishop, or its official Episcopal moderator appointed by the Holy See, attesting to the fact that the organization is formally Catholic and in communion with the Church's teachings and authority.

If the Foundation approves funding, the grant will be transmitted through the local Ordinary, a Papal Nuncio, or through the department of the Holy See of the organization’s official Episcopal Moderator. The party through whom the funds are transmitted will also be asked to agree to review both the project evaluation and expenditure report, and attest to its accuracy.

IMPORTANT!

The Foundation does not accept applications for the following purposes:

  1. Tuition, Scholarships or Fellowships
  2. Reduction of Debt
  3. Endowment Funds
  4. Grants made by other grantmaking organizations
  5. Individual Scholarly Research
  6. Lobbying or Legislation
  7. Projects completed prior to our Board Meetings (mid-May and late November)
Other Restrictions:

  1. Applications for Construction Projects: In general, requests to fund large construction projects have a low priority with the Raskob Foundation. Building or Renovation Projects costing over $200,000 are not accepted for consideration until:
    • 50% of the total cost is in hand. (Monies pledged but not actually received or contractually committed, do not satisfy this requirement.)
    • A signed construction contract is in existence.
    • Construction is actually underway.
  2. To facilitate the processing of your application for review by our Board, it is advisable that the application materials be submitted in English. Applications submitted in languages other than English may be deemed ineligible.
  3. While there is no limit as to the number of times an applicant may approach the Raskob Foundation for funding, in general, the Foundation does not make grants for the same project or to the same organization on a continuing or regular basis.
  4. If the Foundation is unable to allocate fund your application, the Board will not accept the same application for review at the next (successive) Meeting.
  5. Payment of Foreign Grants. It is the practice of the Raskob Foundation to make payment of foreign grants via crossed check to the local Diocese, whereupon the Ordinary deposits the funds into the Diocesan bank account, procures the exchange into the local currency and ensures that the funds are delivered safely to the grant recipient.

If funding is approved toward the purchase of a vehicle, the vehicle purchased may not be owned by an individual nor assigned for the exclusive use of an individual. It must become the property of a Parish/Diocese/School/Congregation for use at a specified location. The title cannot be transferred to another organization, nor may the vehicle be relocated to another site. A copy of the title, registration, sales invoice or similar proof of purchase verifying ownership must be submitted to the Foundation once the vehicle has been acquired.

These conditions apply - but are not limited - to:
Vans / Buses School Buses Motorbikes / Motorcycles
Ambulances Trucks Off-road Vehicles
Scooters Cars

Of Special Note to Applicants Located in Africa - Based on the Foundation's funding history, requests to purchase vehicles have a low priority in comparison with other projects. As such, it might be in your best interest to apply for another of your funding needs.
